I think I’m officially a Columbus resident for one reason:
I’m starting to become recognized at bars. Boom. I was recognized by the waitress at The Pub, a very cool little English bar at Polaris. Not only did she remember who I was, but she also knew my drink of choice.
I think you can either be proud or embarrassed by this little fact. And I’m choosing to be proud.
So here is a little glimpse into our apartment this year, & our beautiful little Christmas tree. Of course I missed putting up my Christmas tree at home with the family, but there is just something about having your own tree, for the first time. Let the Christmas season begin!!
And with the Christmas season, I think its really important to 1) remember the reason for the season (Matthew 1:18 – 2:23 in the Good Book) & 2) give back.
There are so many ways to give back this holiday season, & the personal reward is much better than any present. Giving back is not something I brag about, because I don’t see it as something that should be. But I do give back, every year, and its better than any present I get. && yes, you should jump on board.
And…If you’re reading this post, you’re better off than 72% of the world, who don’t even have internet access. So, there is always someone who is less fortunate than you, & could use some of your love.
Here are a couple cool little charities I’ve found:
1) Toys for Tots – Columbus http://columbus-oh.toysfortots.org/local-coordinator-sites/lco-sites/default.asp
Donate toys to children who are less fortunate
2) Operation Christmas Child https://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/giving/build-a-box
Build a box of supplies to sent to a child overseas, & you don’t even have to leave your couch!!
3) Holiday Mail For Heros Program http://www.redcross.org/holidaymail
Send holiday cards to soldiers who have been injured overseas & are now recovering. (UNTIL DECEMBER 10TH ONLY!!)
4) Make a Wish Foundation http://www.wish.org/help/donate
Donate money to help make a sick child’s wish come true this holiday season
5) Raider Relief http://raiderrelief.wordpress.com/
My alma mater (GO RAIDERS!) is sponsoring a campaign to give clean drinking water to those who are in need this Christmas.
So maybe, do a little something different this year, & give back.
“When you happen on someone who’s in trouble or needs help among your people with whom you live in this land that God, your God, is giving you, don’t look the other way pretending you don’t see him. Don’t keep a tight grip on your purse. No. Look at him, open your purse, lend whatever and as much as he needs. Don’t count the cost. Don’t listen to that selfish voice saying, “It’s almost the seventh year, the year of All-Debts-Are-Canceled,” and turn aside and leave your needy neighbor in the lurch, refusing to help him. He’ll call God’s attention to you and your blatant sin.
Give freely and spontaneously. Don’t have a stingy heart. The way you handle matters like this triggers God,blessing in everything you do, all your work and ventures. There are always going to be poor and needy people among you. So I command you: Always be generous, open purse and hands, give to your neighbors in trouble, your poor and hurting neighbors.”
