Eucharisto. Give Thanks.

It’s no secret that I am a book nerd – A very awesome trait which comes with library cards, and used book store visits and lots and lots of purchases on amazon. And its just so happens that Amazon has a new little feature which suggests books for you based on your purchases.

And this little gem showed up in my cart about a month ago:  a book called, “One Thousand Gifts: A dare to live fully right where you are” by Ann Voscamp.

A no name writer, with a no name title, and its in my amazon checkout bin. BUY!

Ann is a woman who was dealt a rough set a cards in life and instead of choosing to turn her emotions into hate and resentment she chooses to do quite the opposite. “One Thousand Gifts” is Ann’s search for thankfulness in life. Small concept that makes a world of difference.

“How do we find joy in the midst of deadlines, debt, drama and daily duties? What does a life of gratitude look like when your days are gritty, long, and sometimes dark? What is God providing here and now?” – Ann Voscamp

Eucharisto, is the greek word meaning “to give thanks” and is the foundation for Ann’s search. The entire book is her search for peace and thanks in the midst of the crazy world that we all live in. So much so, that Ann develops a list of 1,000 things to be thankful for. Some little things such as bubbles in the dish soap, and some big things such as good health.

Great freeing little concept I want to be a part of. Starting my own little spin on a thousand gifts. You’ll notice a new little tab at the top of my blog called Eucharisto. I think its important to be thankful for everything that God gives us and its equally as important to show that thankfulness in return, thanks Ann. I’ll be updating daily.

I think too many times, we focus on the things we don’t have instead of giving thanks for the things that many forgotten God has already given us. I do it. You do it. We all do it.

And when life throws us that crap that it always seems to do, maybe we’ll have  a different approach to it all?

“Jesus offers thanksgiving for even that which will break Him and crush Him and wound Him and yield a bounty of joy.” -Ann Voscamp

“In a very real way, in a digestible, consuming-oneness way, I’m celebrating greater gain through great loss” – Ann Voscamp

So, looking for a life changer book? Check this one out. (Oh, and skip chapter one – gruesome opening, the rest of the book is much different and much better…)  http://onethousandgifts.com . And – if you’re really feeling adventurous, start a little thankful list. I think you’ll be amazed at the huge impact that little list can have.

My new leading lady of inspiration these days!

“For of all the things our minds can think about God, it is thinking upon his goodness that pleases him most and brings the most profit to our soul.” -Ann Voscamp

PS- 43 page views away from 5,000!?! Unbelievable. Thankful for that.

  1. Just read your blog. I plan to lead a study on One Thousand Gifts starting in Sept.
I am real excited about Ann and her beautiful vocabulary. Have you seen the
